Bonaventure, meaning "good luck" in French, honours the French Canadians who used St. Albert Trail to establish their homesteads, and those who set out on this route during the Klondike Gold Rush. Bonaventure replaced the neighbourhood's earlier names of Radial Park and Brown Estate. At one time the name Klondike was recommended, but it was not adopted.
