Richard D. Butler (1914-1958) was a volunteer firefighter and Jasper Place town councillor. He was killed in a gun battle involving a Jasper Place resident and the town's police and fire departments. Butler was deputy fire chief at the time of his death. He was first elected to town council in 1950, following the incorporation of Jasper Place. The Butler Memorial Park is located in the West Jasper Place neighbourhood and has an area of 0.40 ha.
