Naming Edmonton: From Ada to Zoie

L.D. (Denis) Byrne (d. 1982) came to Edmonton from Birmingham, England, in 1937, upon the request of Premier William Aberhart. Byrne served as minister of economic affairs under the Social Credit government from 1935 until his resignation in 1948. He later joined the British Trade Commission and was high commissioner to Edmonton until he retired in 1971.
