Naming Edmonton: From Ada to Zoie 

Edith Muriel Cheriton was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering. Cheriton, born and raised in Edmonton, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1946. She went on to work for Calgary Power and later accepted a post with Canadian General Electric in Toronto. In 1963, Cheriton and her husband established an engineering consulting firm in Edmonton.
